Pastor Matthew Shedden

When people ask how I became a pastor I typically respond, "I'm supposed to say something about 'the call of God'", which is of course true. However, the bigger reason is that I believe that if God has left the church as his body here on Earth that is where I wanted to give my life.

I grew up in the Chicago Suburbs and left at the age of 18 to attend Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. There I met my wife and finished a degree in history before moving to Seattle to attend the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology where I received an MDiv. We then moved to rural Oregon where I worked and learned as an associate pastor for 6 years.

When given the opportunity to move back to Colorado I jumped at the chance to lead Defiance Church. When I'm not working or reading at the church, you'll find me on the river fly-fishing or on the slopes skiing and enjoying this wonderful area we live in. Together, with my wife and kids, we enjoy the simple homebody life of cooking, laughing, and just being together.

I'd love to get to know you. Send me an email and we can meet up for coffee or a pint.
